About the Opportunity 

Currently, Salit Steel is looking for multiple Welders to work on a full-time basis in either Etobicoke or Fort Erie, Ontario. Shifts will be Monday-Friday on a rotating schedule of mornings, afternoons, and nights with occasional overtime opportunities available. 

Reporting to the Production Supervisor, you will work and operate machinery in a safe and efficient manner while being responsible for the assembly of rebar structures by welding and/or tying. 

More specifically, your responsibilities will include: 

  • Adhering to Technical System Procedures and Instructions
  • Selecting the appropriate quantity, length, and gauge of rebar as required for the structure being assembled
  • Utilizing measuring instruments (tape measure, straight edge, laser sight, jig) as required to properly locate and space rebars
  • Welding bars using MIG welder
  • Being responsible for reloading weld wire
  • Changing and maintaining weld tips to ensure weld quality is consistent
  • Operating overhead crane, once properly certified in crane use
  • Ensuring machine guards are in place and materials are handled in a safe manner while wearing appropriate safety equipment 
  • Being able to detect the faulty operation of equipment, as well as faulty material
  • Sorting and reworking defective material, repacking and disposing of scrap as required

In order to qualify for this role, a formal welding certificate is preferred, but not required; other combinations of skills and experience will be considered and training will be provided. A minimum of one year of MIG welding experience and the ability to read and interpret blueprints would be strong assets. The ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment and the physical stamina to lift up to 50lbs is required for this role.
